Hair Care Series, Day 3: Wash Day — Hot Shampoo, Cold Rinse

Yesterday’s oil and mousse had done their shift. Today was wash day: a hot shampoo shower to cleanse it all out, finished with a cold rinse.

Day 3. Yesterday’s oil and mousse had done their shift, sitting on the hair and scalp since yesterday’s application. Today was wash day — time to cleanse it all out and reset to a clean slate.

The method was simple: a hot shampoo shower first, working the shampoo through the curls to lift the oil and dissolve the mousse, then a cold shower to finish. Hot to cleanse, cold to close out — that’s the whole routine.

The photos below are the honest middle of it. Hair flipped forward, curls soaked and separated, the scalp showing through the wet hair. This is what wash day actually looks like — not the glossy after photo, the real during.

With the product washed out, you can see the curls falling into their natural clumps when wet. And the scalp is clearly visible in a few of these shots — the same thinning areas we’ve been documenting since day one. Nothing hidden, nothing staged. That’s the deal we made, and we’re keeping it.

Every end is a mark of a new beginning. Change is the only constant. I lost my granny today. Although I feel sad, I feel comforted in knowing my grandpa and two grannies are all resting in peace, together. I love my GRANDPARENTS. Thank you for everything, literally!

What’s next: the routine continues from a clean slate. We’ll keep showing up and documenting — the fresh wash days and the ordinary ones alike.
